Our mission:

Compassion in action for  street dogs and cats

Care of Didim Animals (CoDA) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the well-being of street animals. We work closely with local authorities, residents, and visitors to the area to prioritize the health and welfare of these vulnerable creatures. Our mission is to ensure that every street animal receives the care and compassion it deserves. By fostering partnerships and promoting community involvement, we aim to raise awareness about the challenges faced by these animals and to implement sustainable solutions.

We run events and activities
throughout the year.

As details are confirmed, the events will be featured in this space and the countdown will begin so keep checking back and join us for fun, bargains and gifts galore and, most importantly, raising funds for the vulnerable animals.

In the meantime, our brilliant CoDA calendars are available at various outlets around Didim

Youth Education Program

Compassion in Action: Educating Children About Care for Street Animals

In today's world, kindness toward animals is an essential value that every child should learn. Our education program will aim to teach children about compassion and care for street animals, fostering empathy and responsibility from a young age. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and engaging storytelling, we introduce young minds to the challenges faced by street animals and the importance of treating all living beings with kindness.

The Importance of Compassion

Understanding and empathy are core components of compassion. Children often form strong emotional connections with animals, and this program leverages that bond to instill a sense of duty toward those in need. By teaching children about the hardships faced by street animals, such as hunger, illness, and abandonment, we help them develop a deeper understanding of their needs and how they can make a difference.

Interactive Learning Experiences

Our program will include various interactive activities designed to engage children effectively. These experiences include:

  • Storytelling Sessions: Tales about street animals and their survival can spark important discussions among children, allowing them to express their feelings and thoughts on the subject.
  • Field Trips: Visits to local animal shelters or rescue organisations provide hands-on learning. Children can see firsthand the work being done to help street animals and understand the importance of adopting rather than shopping for pets.
  • Crafting Projects: Children can create items like pet toys or blankets for shelter animals, helping them to feel a sense of accomplishment and connection to their efforts.

Promoting Responsibility

Through teachings about the needs and habits of street animals, children learn that caring for animals is a responsibility not just for caretakers but for the community as a whole. They discover ways to help, whether it's through volunteering, fundraising, or simply spreading awareness about the needs of animals in their neighborhoods.

Community Involvement

We encourage parents, teachers, and community members to join in this initiative. By working together, we can create a ripple effect that promotes compassion throughout the community. Workshops and parent-child events can facilitate open conversations about animal care, responsibility, and empathy, reinforcing the lessons learned in the program.

Conclusion

This education program will not only aim to teach children about care for street animals but will also strive to nurture a generation of compassionate individuals. By instilling these values early on, we pave the way for a more humane society where all creatures are treated with respect and care. Join us in making a difference, one child at a time!

A CoDA Success Story....

Poppet

I first met Poppet in June 2023. She arrived at the shelter in a truly pathetic state and yet despite being very ill and likely in severe discomfort, she loved human companionship and attention. A young couple holidaying in Turkey and volunteering at the shelter fell in love with this dog. At that point, Poppet could not be described as beautiful. She was painfully thin, was struggling with mange and had a very bad leg. The young couple, however, recognised how much this little dog wanted to live and how much love she had to give.

"How do we get this dog to the UK?" The words every volunteer wants to hear and yet dreads in equal measure. We want every dog to find a loving home, but with a dog obviously so very ill and a potential six-month wait for the dog to be healthy and legal to travel, if indeed the dog survives then surely, when this young couple realise this, they won't want to pursue the adoption? Long story short, they did pursue and after weeks of extraordinary care at Furry Friends Veterinary Practice and then a lengthy foster period, she was ready for travel. When she arrived at the shelter in June 2023, she had mange, she had survived distemper, she had a historical break in her leg and following blood tests, it was discovered that she had two tick-borne diseases. She weighed just 7.5 kg.

She is now living an extraordinary life. Her weight has doubled. She is throroughly spoilt and extremely happy. She has retained that beautiful temperament that the young couple identified on the first visit. She is happy, healthy and most importantly, she is loved.
